Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT) has been shown to be effective in reducing tics. It is a highly structured therapy administered once a week by a trained therapist. The standard treatment is eight sessions over ten weeks, but it can be adjusted to meet your needs. CBIT consists of four important components:
Teaching you to be more aware of your tics and the urge to tic
Making changes to your day to day activities in ways that can be helpful in reducing tics
Teaching you to do competing behavior when you feel the urge to tic
Learning stress management techniques to reduce anxiety that can increase tics
